normi™ certified

sanitizing professional  (cSP)

The class is designed for the professional who utilizes this training and accompanying credentials to provide recommendations and solutions to lower the microbial load in indoor environments. Using objective sampling results to prove the efficacy of the implemented sanitization solutions, the CSP is able to provide a NORMI™ Certificate of Sanitization to both commercial and residential property owners.

"For years, clients have been concerned about microbial contamination in the air and on surfaces. This course trains the professional in how to assess and evaluate the contamination levels and utilize the Microbial Reduction Protocol to lower the contamination levels. Though now indoor environment is microbial-free, this process provides and cleaner, healthier environment for living and working indoors and, in many cases, reduces allergens that exacerbate common health issues." D. Douglas Hoffman, Executive Director of NORMI

Swab sampling collection bacteria (non-speciated) on the surface and air-o-cell collection of particulates (pollen, dead skin, mold spores, etc.) in the air provide a window into the level of microbial contamination in any indoor environment. By creating a baseline level, implementing a specific NORMI™ Sanitization Protocol and completing post-sanitization verification (PSV), the CSP is able to offer the client a guarantee that the microbial load has been reduced on both the surfaces and in the air. Three "types of microorganisms" can be generally categorized as bacteria, fungi and viruses.

By using swab (surface) and air-o-cell (air) sampling, the CSP is using these sampling as a surrogate for these three microorganisms. This course defines the problem, the process of assessing the problem and the solutions to the problem. In most cases, just like in the pesticide industry, the CSP can also administer or supervise the implementation of the Microbial Reduction Protocol to assure the work is completed correctly.

Once the course is completed, the student is encouraged to take a proctored examination (open book w/manual) and, after a passing score of 70%, receive the NORMI certification. Active NORMI membership is required as part of the certification process, all of which is explained on the course landing page. The CSP Manual (downloaded or printed) is provided, along with other resources, on that same page and registration for the exam is provided at https://www.besttrainingschool.com/examonly.php

course outline

MODULE 1 - Introduction and Terminology

This module is designed to introduce the correct nomenclature that should be used when describing the services offered and claims made. Some of the topics under discussion will include the definition of "surrogates, sanitization, disinfection, kill, anti-microbial" and others. The NORMI Professional Practices, Sanitization Protocol and the specific Microbial Load Reduction protocol will discussed in detail so proper claims will be made to avoid unnecessary litigation.

MODULE 2 - Sampling Techniques and Strategies

We will discuss how to develop a sampling strategy to include swab, air-o-cell and ATP luminometer screening techniques. Touchpoints should be considered when developing the sampling strategy and the CSP must determine which samples and how many should be utilized to support the NORMI™ Certificate of Sanitization.

MODULE 3 - NORMI Certified Biocide Applicator

This module introduces the various vertical markets that could utilize this process, introduces the types of chemistries available for solutions and the application options. There are supplemental trainings inside of this module that could be taken to add value to the service offered. These might include Clorox T360 electro-static spraying, ozone as a supplemental option and specific chemicals.

MODULE 4 - IAQ Basics 101

Addressing indoor air quality issues requires an understanding of the five (5) technologies that are included in virtually all air filtration/purification on the market. To utilize the proper equipment to support the NORMI™ Certificate of Sanitization, the CSP understands which equipment to select to match the environment based on these five technologies pros and cons.

MODULE 5 - NORMI Professional Screening Partner

This DIY (do-it-yourself) program was designed for property owners to complete their own mold assessment and walks them through an actual assessment for their home including recommendations on solutions. The CSP takes this module for purpose of understanding the components of the indoor environment that should be addressed regarding IAQ issues, the causes contributing to those issues and how to offer a multi-strategic solution this the IAQ multi-faceted problem. At this end of this module, the CSP understands how to develop an IAQ blueprint for each unique indoor environments.

MODULE 6 - Marketing the CSP Services

Understanding how to market your services using the proper claims is critical to being successful. This section will discuss the specific "approved" products that support the NORMI™ Certification of Sanitization, should you choose that option and disclaimers that should be offered on each project.
